I feel that even though I know I'm getting older, I am the most comfortable I've ever been with myself. My 20's certainly had some good moments, but 2012 is really the first year I've been able to shed insecurities and just "do me". People really do define themselves by their role and I like what you said about identifying with happiness and fulfillment. It's like the end of my favorite poem "Desiderata": Be cheerful. Thirty means that a lot of that trial is behind me."</i> That pretty much sums it up for me. I'd been looking forward to my 30s for quite some time, in part because of all of the trials my 20s came with, but also because for me, in some sense, 30 represented "true" adulthood. I was always weary of the party scene, and the lack of responsibility that people so often chalked up to being "young" and in their 20s. I looked forward to taking a few more steps away from all of that. Of course, being 30 is just one day away from being 29, and there's no real difference to be found. I quickly realized that some people may never grow up, and just because I'm 30, it doesn't mean that all my problems are going to magically be resolved. Still, I'm glad to be 30. 3 has always been a powerful number for me, and I feel like this is symbolic of a new chapter, a new era. For all those people who'd have us think we're "too old" for x, y, or z, or that the best days of our lives are somehow behind us, I say this: buckle your seatbelts, because I'm just getting started ““thirty doesn’t sound so bad.
